The Republican Party Is Failing At Government
By Orel Hardwick
News broke late Monday that the GOP’s Repeal-and-Replace Obamacare bill would not have the votes to pass the Senate. Despite spending the past seven years telling us the biggest threat to our country is the continued existence of ObamaCare, the Republican Party is proving completely incapable of being able to remove, replace, or fix it.
For seven and a half years now, the Republican Party has made ‘Repeal and Replace Obamacare’ its national rallying cry. They have pushed it at every turn, fought against it when other battles seemed more pertinent, and made it the focus of this new Trump Administration to a degree we’ve rarely seen in modern politics.
It is, and has been, the Republican Party’s defining fight for nearly a decade.
And it is about to fail.
It is about to fail despite a Republican-controlled Senate and a Republican-controlled House. It is about to fail despite a Republican President who, although he may not fully understand the bill, is hellbent on getting a win for his Party and his Administration. It is about to fail despite years of GOP Leaders telling us OBAMACARE WILL DOOM AMERICA AND EVERYONE AROUND YOU WILL DIE FROM DEATH PANELS IF WE DON’T GET THIS FIXED IMMEDIATELY.
It is about to fail because, quite frankly, the Republican Party is unable to govern.
Consider the above; both houses of Congress and the White House are controlled by the Republican Party. The only thing that stands in their way, quite literally, is themselves.
Ask yourself; if they can’t get this right — nay, if they can’t even get this going — can this party be trusted to accomplish anything?
Imagine, for a moment, a surgeon telling you a tumor had to be removed, but then being unable to do it. Imagine your boss saying your office needed a coffee machine, but never being able to bring one in. Imagine the coach of your favorite baseball team saying your squad needed to improve their hitting, but being unable to teach his players how to be patient at the plate. Imagine any level of incompetence, any specific situation where someone or some group of someones has said WE ABSOLUTELY NEED THIS THING MORE THAN EVER and then completely failing to do anything about it, despite being in the perfect position to do so.
That is your current Republican Party. They have sworn for years now that ObamaCare must go. They have refused to take any steps to improve ObamaCare in its current iteration. And now, while holding all the cards, they’re completely unable to play a hand.
If your employee showed this level of incompetence, you would fire them. If your significant other showed this level of stupidity, you would dump them. Instead, it is your Senators, your Congressmen, your President, proving completely unable to govern, falling flat on their own faces while good, hard-working American’s struggle to make ends meet and need their governments help for a better quality of life.
The Republican Party has proven they are not up to the task of governing. The Republican Party is proving they are not up to the task of doing their jobs. Eventually, it will be time to find someone else who can.
