Neil Gorsuch Doesn’t Have Enough Support, So Mitch McConnell Is Going To Change The Rules
By Teddy Paige
Neil Gorsuch, the Donald Trump nominee only being reviewed because the Republican Senate openly refused to even consider Merrick Garland, was so dismissive and arrogant at his hearing that many middle-of-the-line Democrats have agreed to join party hard-liners in a filibuster.
Mitch McConnell, who led the refusal against Garland in the first place, has already threatened as a result to go with the “nuclear option,” which essentially means he’s going to eliminate filibusters forever.
As of now, the end result seems predictable; Neil Gorsuch, a conservative leaning judge, will become the next member of the Supreme Court. Merrick Garland, widely considered a middle-of-the-line judge, will become a footnote in history. And the rules of the Senate will be changed forever, so that Mitch McConnell can get his way.
Make no mistake; the appointment of a right-leaning judge like Gorsuch was McConnell’s highest priority since the moment Scalia died in his sleep. This is exactly why McConnell stuck with Trump through thick-and-thin (or, in Trump’s case, Russian ties and grab-her-by-the-pussy videos).
McConnell is an embarrassment to the good people of Kentucky. Not only has he used Donald Trump to get his wife a cushy job, and refused to take any action against Russian interference in the American election (essentially giving Putin the “green light” to do it again), but he has used his role as Senate Majority leader so hypocritically, it makes any person with even the most basic of principles want to rip out their own hair.
Again, to sum-up; for the centrist Garland, McConnell refused to even consider a vote, SOMETHING THAT HAS NEVER BEEN DONE IN THE HISTORY OF OUR COUNTRY.
Now, once Gorsuch was unable to secure the number of necessary votes to get through, McConnell plans to change the rules of the Senate in a way THAT HAS NEVER BEEN DONE IN THE HISTORY OF OUR COUNTRY.
The bottom line is, when it comes to getting what he wants, Mitch McConnell will do whatever it takes and re-write any rule. And the people of Kentucky should be embarrassed.
